Malone made amends for their recent Ulster Bank league defeat when the defeated Harlequins by 25-5 and secured a try scoring bonus point in the proces

Malone travelled to Deramore Park to play Belfast Harlequins in the Ulster League. Their last Ulster Bank fixture saw Harlequins victorious after a unimpressive performance by Malone.

On this occasion Malone seized the bragging rights with a comprehensive victory by 25-5, securing a vital try bonus point.

The game commenced on the back pitch as the main pitch was used on Friday night for the Ulster Ravens game. The weather was dry but a bitting wind made it feel very cold.

It was the home side who had the early possession but in the opening 20 minutes the visitors defence was excellent and managed to frustrate several Quinn’s attacks.

Malone had a purple patch in the second quarter when the scored a total of three tries. The first on 26 minutes came after a superb break by Josh Pentland saw him off load to winger Chris Leathem who finished well to set down close to the posts, Shandon Scott added the conversion to give Malone a 7-0 lead.

On 31 min Shandon Scott added a penalty to increase the lead to 10-0. 5 minutes later centre Josh Pentland scored an unconverted try after a good break up the wing by Michael Barker.

As the opening half drew to a close Malone out half Shandon Scott scored a try after a show of the ball he cut inside to touch down, he failed to convert his score. This left Malone 20-0 ahead at the break.
The second half saw two further tries the first for malone on 61 minutes when Michael Barker made a super break to score an unconverted try, 9 minutes later the home side got a late consolation try to leave the scre 25-5 in favour of Malone.

The Malone forwards had some excellent passages of play laying siege to the Harlequins line but were unable to get across the line.

The game ended with no further scores and Malone were worthy winners having put in a passionate and workman like performance. No game next week but the following Saturday we are away to Blackrock in the Ulster Bank league, so why not make the trip to Dublin to support the team
