Malone showed well in their opening training game against Clontarf

Malone played Division 1A team Clontarf in a pre season training game. The game was played at Pirre Park in superb conditions, the weather was warm and sunny and the pitch was in superb condition.

Clontarf lost a player through injury early on, we wish him a speedy recovery. Malone took an early lead when Jay Malcolm scored with Mark Gribben adding the conversion to lead by 7-0.

Malone lost new signing Tom Patton to a yellow card and Clontarf took advantage scoring an early converted try to level the scores.

Malone playing some excellent attacking rugby increased their points tally when Taylor Acheson crossed the line for an unconverted try, score 12-7 to Malone.

Clontarf looked sure to score as the first period of play drew to a close but with the line beckoning the ball was knocked forward.

It was Malone who scored next when winger Michael Barker crossed for a converted try to increase their lead to 19-7. Clontarf however responded in kind shortly after when the scored an excellent push over try through their forwards which was converted, score now 19-14 in favour of Malone.

Both sided were playing some excellent rugby at the opening of the third period Clontarf took the lead with an unconverted try. Score 21-19 in their favour.

malones Pete Raine was next on the scoresheet to give Malone the lead by 26-21, Clontarf now using their forwards applied severe pressure and scored a converted try to edge them ahead by 28-26.

The Clontarf forwards scored an excellent try following a catch and drive to extend their lead to 35-26.

The Clontarf forward had one more rumble and scored the final try of the game to set them up for the win by 42-26. Malone will take a lot of positives from this opening pre season game.
