Malone made the ideal start to this year campaign when the took the win away to Cashel. They were unable to capitalize on home advantage this time at home to visitors Highfield.
The visitors made the stronger start and made Malone defend for long periods, the homesides defence was solid and despite Highfields strongests efforts they were unable to cross the Malone line. Both sides worked hard, Malone looked good at scrum time, their line out misfired on several occassions. The opening half only produced one score a penalty from the Highfield outhalf Paddy O'Toole. Malone failed to score from their one penalty attempt which left the visitors in a 3 point lead at the end of the first half.
The second half was a similar affair, both sides worked hard and had a number of scoring opportunities which they failed to finish due to poor handling. Malone had 2 penaly oppuntunities the first was sent wind but the second found it's target which brought the scores level at 3-3. Highfield had a superb opportunity to close out the game when the ball was moved wide the final pass found the receiving played ahead of the ball and it came to nothing. Malone also had several attacking moves through the forwards but they were unable to breach the visitors line. The game finished with the score at 3-3, the result see's them sitting 4th in the table.
One feels an opportunity missed espically at home. The next game is away to Queens on Friday night at the Dub.
