Malone Women Vs Ards /Ballyclare

Sunday arrived and brought with it a big day of women's and girls rugby. Both Malone Women and Malone U18s played today, 1 v Ards/B'clare and the other Bangor U18s.

The adult game kicked off first in what can only be called a freezing day, bitter cold. Both teams had the shivers thats for sure. It got underway and from the offset the match was physical. Inside 10mins we lost our outhalf due to an accidental blow to the side of the head, which left her a little shaken. We took her off and kept her off to be sure. Coaches where worried. The Ards/B'clare girls had come to play rugby thats for sure.

Both sides played hard around the fringes and learnt very quickly that to stay warm dont pass it to the backs, and when the backs got the ball both sides did the same as well.

Tries came through hard running and determination. Some where great and finished well under the sticks making conversion attempts that much easier. Though tries may have came about, I cannot deny that Malone where suffering as much with the cold as there opposition. Its hard to grab with numb hands and chattering teeth.

Anyway the match was fun, and I hope the gils enjoyed themselves . Big thank you to Ards and Ballyclare for coming to Malone giving woman's rugby a huge day out.

Thanks to Alan for refing and to Paul, Malone Chef, for the great food in the bar after.

Also our Malone Girls featured at home today against Bangor. The game as always envolved very little kicking. These girls always just wanna run the ball and tackle. The break down was where most of the action was, and all the big hits took place. Tries came often on the outside for both teams. Id say the tackle average in our youth match for each player would put any international to shame! I think the Malone girls just love to get stuck in hahaha.

It finnished 5 tries each. Both teams worked hard to get there points and some ran 80m with great disco moves to get their score. Epic to watch and as always a joy to be present with all the future of Ulster rugby.

Thanks Bangor for coming down and to Dave for being the Referee.

To all injured women and girls, I wish you all a speedy recovery and look forward to all your returns.
