Rejenerate Cup match Malone RFC Women 27 V Ballymoney Ladies Rugby 7

Todays game happened to be on international women's day which was no coincidence. It was as if Emma Watson knew it was a clash of the titans between these two teams and pre ordained this day to be that day.

Our friends off the pitch and rivals on Ballymoney arrived in high spirits saying that they where looking forward to the game ahead and some even mentioned a lowly soul called Gill Powell who they wished was there but alas she had duties elsewhere in the realm coaching Teen Toonies in their own match. But no matter, Gill was watching them, for whenever I glanced at Ballymoney they where always looking over there shoulders as if being watched by something or SOMEONE?

The Malone girls were warming up with some South African guy. They tried to follow his instructions but the accent was hard to grasp, but I over heard some girls say "thank god he's pointing or we'd be lost completely" Mark Im sure they meant nothing by it, but no harm working harder on your pronunciation? haha jk

The match kicked off at 1pm sharp, and inside 5 mins 3 Malone girls where down, subs made and plenty of head scratching going on until a figure appeared as if outta no where, ripped her civilian clothes off like a super hero and stood there in complete Malone attire ready to take the pitch. It was Eimear, she smiled, a sparkle appeared, and she helped save the day.

Ballymoney had turned up that was for sure. A few subs and the game got underway again. It was a 1 to 15 game today. Both teams where trying to break each others defences but tackles where going in hard, and both teams where not for giving the other any yards, then "WHISTLE" !!

The whistle for half time blew which for some reason had players perplexed and coaches checking watches and scratching heads. Either that was the shortest half ever or the intensity of play was gripping and we didnt see the time fly? So the latter it was, the play was gripping.

2nd half was under way and all to play for. Now after a while the big tackles where starting to take its toll on all players and gaps began to open up. Ballymoney making some great yards up the wings only to be held up short or tackled into touch. Malone also where attacking with the backs through the middle and linking up on the outside.

That was it, the gaps kept coming and evetually Malone made their way to the try line. Some hard running and simple passes here and there allowed Malone to progress. Not to be undone the Ballymoney girls where camped on the Malone 5m and was determined not to leave without points. Scrum Ballymoney, backrow pick and dive for the line. Score, and conversion.

Finally the full time whistle went and the day ended in Malones favour. A huge thank you to Ballymoney Ladies Rugby team for being great sports and giving Malone a hard fair game.

Then after a wash it was into the bar for food, jug of beer and feet up. On ending Id like to wish all the girls who got injured a speedy recovery and hope you all will be back playing soon. ‪#‎thisgirlcan‬

Finally thank you to Connor and Chef Paul for the great food in the bar after the match. Service and Curry was top notch.

Thank you
