Malone U16's did not disappoint unlike Ireland!

A sunny Saturday morning and Ireland have just been defeated by Japan in the world cup match. Following a pitch inspection the referee confirm the game will go ahead. Malone U16 v a combined team made up of Larne and Lisburn players. After taking some abuse from Lloyd Green reference Irelands defeat it was time for kick off.

The game started very scrappy for both sides with a lot of spilled balls and a number of offsides, this could be a hard day for the referee! Fifteen minutes in and Malone score the first try, forwards picking up from the back of the ruck supporting each other and bombarded their way through the defensive line.

It wasn’t long before Malone scored again resulting from an aggressive forward pack working well with ball in hand. The Malone forwards continued to work well in attack managing to secure quick ball allowing their backs to do a bit of running.

Mark Anderson ran through a number of tackles before he was put into touch on the Larne 22. The call was made and the Malone forwards were setting up to attempt to steal the ball. The lift at the front of the line was close to perfect, Malone had stolon the ball and were on the attack again. A well worked move by the backs paid off with a third converted try.

With the half time whistle approaching Malone scored again, halftime score 24 – nil

The Larne players came out in the second half and fought hard managing to break the Malone defense on half way. Thundering towards the line the Malone backs tackled well and managed to turn the ball over. They were on the attack again when a high tackle stopped play, yellow card Larne down to 14 men.

Malone pressed forward with their backs making some great runs resulting in two trys. It was 34 –nil and with only 7 minutes on the clock a second Larne player was yellow carded for a high tackle. Malone capitalised on the 13 man team and scored two consecutive trys, final score 44 – nil.
