Malone U16's finish the stronger team on the day.

Well folks it was the U16s 1st league game off the season away to Ballyclare.

This was a much stronger outfit than we played in the recent blitz a few weeks back, some of these guys wouldn’t have looked outta place in a senior squad, but our boys didn’t let that bother them with some great tackles through out the game. Malone had all the play in the 1st half but just couldn’t break the deadlock as well as playing Ballyclare we were also up against a poor referee who’s arm only pointed in one direction in the way of Ballyclare ??

The dead lock was eventually broken near the end off the first half falling to Ballyclare with a try and a conversion, going in at the break 7 nil up. Enter the second half and the boys didn’t let the score get them down, with the backs & forward driving forward at will it was only a matter of time that they were going to be rewarded for their hard work, and that’s just what happened. Bradley picked up the ball just passed the halfway line using his strength and power to knock the Ballyclare players down like skittles to get over the line for our first try, unfortunately we missed the conversion with the ball coming off the right hand up right and falling the wrong side off the bar.

We now had all the momentum and with Ballyclare shell shocked there was only one team in it the mighty red socks. It wasn’t long before we got our second try as we were pressing forward as a group with some nice passing along the line the ball eventually coming to Robbie Moore, with a cheeky side step to he powered over the line, conversion we’ll executed by Finn Rodgers it was 12 -7 to Malone.

It wasn’t long before we had our third try with a lovely passing move along the line from left to right the ball eventually coming to Finn Rodgers who unselfishly with a great under arm pass setup Ruudy Martin for a try in the corner , unfortunately for FInn his conversion just drifted narrowly passed the left hand up right.

The score at this stage was 7 -17 to malone and our boys were cruising only for the referee giving some dodgy decisions in Ballyclares favour resulting in them getting there second try and conversion of the match to bring the scores to 14 - 17 leaving a nervy last 10 mins.

The boys held on to claim our 1st league win of the season. The team as a whole can hold their heads up high after this result , this team will only get stronger and better.
